L-Theanine is the found primarily in tea and has been heavily studied and proven to enhance alpha brain waves, which are obviously better than beta brain waves since they correlate with relaxed attention. L-theanine has also been shown to increase nerve growth factor (NGF) by 100% in the Hippocampus. NGF is responsible for the growth and protection of brain cells, which means an increase in neural plasticity and learning and a decrease in cognitive decline.

  2. Alpha-GPC is a great source of Choline and the best precursor for acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that has been linked to learning and memory in several ways, learning of simple isolated tasks, and the intake of factual information. 

  3. Rhodiola Rosea reduces mental fatigue, physical fatigue and symptoms of depression. Rhodiola Rosea is also known to reduce stress and the excretion of cortisol. It is common to experience acute stimulant-like effects when trying Rhodiola rosea for the first time and taking frequent tolerance breaks. 

  4. Caffeine seems to have a large cognitive effects. It seems to be able to consistently increase alertness and attention. In a study there showed a relationship between caffeine intake and enhanced performance on hard working memory tasks. The alertness of caffeine is created by by blocking adenosine receptors which are responsible for signaling the nervous system that you are tired and need sleep. 

  5. Huperzine A is found in Huperzia serrata. Huperzine A prevents acetylcholinesterase, an enzyme, from breaking down the neurotransmitter acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is directly linked to learning and memory.
